I’m so excited to know that Synchronicity found a home! This was part of the Beach Gallery “Falling for Art” exhibition.
This was such a fun and interesting piece to make. The broken instrument was provided by Tidewater Arts Outreach and I was tasked with turning it into an artwork. Inspiration was eluding me until I got very close to the deadline. I hit the thrift stores, hoping to find a book that would inspire the artwork, and found Broken Music, by the musician Sting. The book details the formation of the band, The Police.
I practically read the book while creating the artwork, pulling out all the passages that were about these emerging musicians playing jazz gigs all over the UK. The book even included a passage about the first time that Sting heard their song on the radio. So fun!
Finding the perfect book was true synchronicity!
