Artwork by Maggie Kerrigan, a book that has been deconstructed and then reconstructed

This piece, Pull Yourself Together, is heading to Falls Church VA for the exhibition, Bits and Pieces at Falls Church Arts, November ’22-January ’23.

I hope my No Va friends will get a chance to see it!

This was inspired by the #metoo movement.  When a woman is assaulted, the expectation is that she must pull herself together and move on with her life.  Though putting on a brave face, her insides have been destroyed.

The book used is called Road to Unafraid.  On first glance at the thrift store, this title seemed perfect.  Then I realized that all the chapter headings were also descriptive of the experiences and challenges faced by a victim of assault.  The actual book is a memoir of an Army Ranger, detailing the horrors of wartime.  How appropriate, right?
