I’m celebrating the many roles of women through a series on women’s shoes. This pair of heels and fashionable hat represent many facets of Princess Diana. During her royal marriage, she bemoaned the focus on her fashion choices, wishing to be recognized by her mind and her contributions. It was after her divorce that she came to be her own person and became known for her humanitarian work and compassion. Though Diana loved to wear higher heels (“Tart Trotters” as she called them), she was persuaded to wear a more sensible heel height. The aim was for her not to be too tall next to Prince Charles, thus appearing as an equal. This is just one of the many ways that she was diminished while married into the royal family.
