Using the Book: The Color of Water
Enjoy the cool, beautiful and serene look of the Chesapeake Bay right in your home.
A challenging technique! First I joined pages from the book together to create a large sheet of text. I then used an image of water superimposed over the text sheet. The darker areas of the water were removed, cutting through both layers. This left the “text paper” as the light reflected on the surface of the water.
Finally, I painted the board with acrylic to create the colors of the water that would show through the removed text paper. Gluing the sheet of text paper onto the board proved to be the most challenging of all, as each small area of text need glue applied individually from a glue injector.
The finished effect is fantastic, and totally worth the effort!
This mixed media piece is 11 x 14″ paper and acrylic on board. The colors and image wrap around the sides. It hangs, unframed on a wall.
