This artwork explores the tangible weight of intangible choices.
I was inspired by my pilgrimage on the Camino de Santiago in the summer of 2023. Pilgrims on the Camino traditionally carry rocks, representing their burdens or regrets that they want to leave along the way. My fellow pilgrims and I joked often that the rocks were the weight of our bad decisions!
For this artwork, I asked friends and family to submit (anonymously) their own bad decisions. Some were lighthearted, some poignant, some involved large sums of money, and many were about relationships and self-love.
These paper-cast rocks (yes, only paper) were collaged with paper from the book, Bad Decisions Make Good Stories and then covered with the bad decisions of my friends and family.
