A woman was looking through my paintings and found one that she liked. She asked me the price and then said, “Is that (price) the best you can do?” She was hoping to haggle with me. My answer was a polite no, and I was secretly glad that she didn’t buy the painting.ocgs booth 3

Don’t get me wrong; I love selling my art! But I’m still an idealist. I want the buyer to be responding to the art. If the piece you are considering doesn’t have some kind of affect on you, resonate, and create a reaction deep within, then you might be wasting your money.

Someone who is silently calculating how much the canvas cost and how much the paint cost and how much time it took to paint the painting should reconsider buying fine art. There are plenty of shops and stores that sell framed prints: something you like with a price tag you love. When it comes to original fine art, you should be looking for something you LOVE with a price tag you LIKE.

If you look at a piece and you find it intriguing, or irresistible, or breathtaking, then you will know whether or not the price is a good value. Hold out for the artwork that stirs your thoughts, or takes your breath away. It’s worth it!
