Artist Maggie Kerrigan posing with her artwork "The Escher Head" and holding her Honorable Mention award.

It was an honor and pleasure to participate in the Fabulous Forgeries: Reboot! exhibition at the Virginia Beach Art Center in February.  We were tasked with re-creating a master work with a twist.

I chose M.C. Escher.  He created a drawn portrait of his wife that was inspired by the novel, The Invisible Man, and–of all things–an orange peel.  He titled it “Rind.”

I recreated this portrait in paper from a book of Escher’s art.  It won an honorable mention in the exhibition.
