Today I found myself getting sick and tired of apologies and excuses. “Sorry I’m late; I’ve got a thousand things going on right now. Sorry I didn’t answer your email; I’m really chasing my tail lately. Sorry I didn’t call you back; I had a big deadline this week. Sorry. Sorry. Sorry.” Oh, did I mention that these are my very own words?
This happens to me every year. January starts with a bang, a fresh set of goals and loads of optimism. Then reality sets in. First is the list of things that got put off during the month of December. Then comes the normal list of what needs to get done in a month. Finally, top it off with the brand new, shiny tasks that go with all those awesome goals. Am I the only one who feels like she’s drowning?
So this weekend, I’m going to step back and breathe. I’m going to reassess the shiny new goals and set more realistic timelines. I’m going to give myself credit for all that’s been done the last two weeks. Finally, I’m going to figure out my focus so that I’m not sidetracked by every appealing offer and request that comes my way.
