This whimsical artwork is made from the iconic book, Beautiful Swimmers. If you grew up on the waters of the Chesapeake Bay, you may have heard of this book that celebrates the blue crab. Have you ever been pinched by one? I have! It was a tiny one, but that sure didn’t matter!
The fun story behind this book starts with some sailing friends of ours, the Harcums. When I was a kid, our two families went on weekend sailing trips around the Bay. Years ago Jim Harcum gave me a copy of Beautiful Swimmers so that I could make an artwork out of it. His wife Dot had given it to him for his birthday in the 70s. After Dot saw the artwork, she bought it and gave it back to Jim again, for his birthday 50 years later!
That was a hardcover, and this paperback copy of the book is only slightly different. Yet still fun!
