Please meet our dog, Nutmeg. She’s a goldendoodle and the sweetest dog ever (yes, a biased opinion). Never having owned a dog before, I have learned a LOT from having her in the family. Most of these lessons aren’t about dog care; they’re about how to live life.nm 16

One of Nutmeg’s beautiful traits is that she knows what makes her JOYFUL! Dog treats, throwing the tennis ball, her favorite squeaky toy (when it’s not banished to the cabinet), and the mailman, who leaves a treat when he has a package for us.

Most of all, she is utterly joyful about walks. If you grab the long leash instead of the short one, she virtually erupts with enthusiasm! The long leash means she can hang back to investigate smells or run ahead without me to check out the next exciting thing to see (or smell). For the entire walk, she is brimming with zest for seeing and experiencing everything there is along the way.  Who knew there could be such unbridled joy from walking the same route that we walk over and over?

Today I’m asking you, what is your JOYFUL activity? What allows you to feel immersed, not noticing the passing of time? What leaves you feeling refreshed and recharged afterward, even if it was a physical or exhausting activity? Maybe it’s something that you haven’t done for a long time—years even. Hiking? Sewing, Bike riding? Crafting? Yoga?

Make a decision to carve out about 30 minutes this week to revive a joyful activity. What will it be? Tell us about it in the comments area so we can all share in your upcoming joy!
