Let’s get creative on a Friday! Not too long ago, I took an on-line class with Stanford on CREATIVITY. One of our assignments was to list 100 unique uses for chewing gum. Seriously? Why?
Thinking of 20 uses for gum might not be too difficult. You could list 5 or 10 practical uses and then another 5-10 silly (yet plausible) ideas. If you are truly trying to solve a problem, do you want all your possible solutions to be either “obvious” or “silly but plausible?”
Forcing yourself into the realm of #21-100 also forces you into the realm of truly creative and innovative ideas. Of those 80 crazy ideas, there might just be one that either is a solution in itself, or leads you to another solution. The next time you have a problem to solve, run through this exercise (but not with chewing gum).
